Legends, rockets and scenic trails in Alabama

From the Bear to the Alabama Gang to Hank, there are lots of statewide heroes and tributes to each that can be found in Alabama. It only personifies a list of activities in the state.

When the series last visited Talladega, the stay was limited to just Talladega County and neighboring Birmingham for the big-city feel. This time the focus reaches to the surrounding areas in Alabama, with a mix of activities and attractions.

There are museums honoring each of the three legends listed above. There are tributes and landmarks that changed the course of a country. And there's space camp.

But this time of year in Alabama, it's difficult not to take advantage of the outdoors with a hiking trail or even a country drive. What the state has done, however, is split off random markers into a list of woven excursions that have their own personality of tours and trails unique to Alabama.

Editor's Pick

Tours and Trails -- The Alabama visitors' site provides one of the most comprehensive selections of activities by listing a group of tours and trails that highlight multiple interests. Most of the trails have a list of stops to experience the encompassing theme. The most eye-catching trails? Try the Alabama Civil Rights Trail to learn some history. Or try the Scenic and Off-Road Driving Trails in Clay County to get muddy. Perhaps the Fall Color Trail can be appropriate as we break October. The most unique tour? Hank Williams Trail.

Fans' Voice

cathyrroocks -- There is Cheaha State Park that is close to the track and they have camping, hiking, a restaurant and a beautiful view.

JG9000 -- Talladega is the greatest place on Earth. My friends and I go both weekends every year and it is a hell raisin' good time. It's the only time our wives release us from bondage so we make the most of it every time. I have been to Daytona, Atlanta, Charlotte, Bristol ... 'Dega tops 'em all!

babytigertat -- Alabama is one of the prettiest states in the country with a climate in Northern Alabama that is perfect! I look forward to the Talladega race every year because the weather is awesome in the fall.

28dntc9 -- Logan Martin Lake is on the west side of Talladega County, off I-20. There is good fishing to be found there, and you can also rent a pontoon boat for the day. Oh, and it's less than 20 minutes from the track.
