A recap of all the action after 284 pulse-pounding laps at Talladega:

Figuratively speaking

28 -- Twenty-eight different drivers led a lap in the Amp Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, a Cup Series record. The old record, 26, happened twice and both were at the 2.66-mile superspeedway (1986 and 2001).

Pit Crew of the Week

No 48. Chevrolet: Who else? Crew chief Chad Knaus called for a two-tire stop and air-pressure adjustment on Lap 200 and the 48 car was first out of the pits, marking a 12-spot improvement. Jimmie Johnson led his first laps of the race and from there coasted to the title.

Tip of the Week

Radiators are often ignored. Yet keeping engines cool and running in the right temperature range is critical to taking the heat off your engine.

Tony Stewart, a six-time bridesmaid at Talladega Superspeedway, finally got to Victory Lane at the 2.66-mile track in Sunday's Amp Energy 500. But a controversial finish left rookie Regan Smith shouting, "Stop the wedding!" In a green-white-checkered finish that took the race two laps beyond its scheduled distance, Stewart was declared the winner, even though Smith crossed the finish line first.

Qualifying
In a qualifying session that saw none of the Chase drivers crack the top 10, Travis Kvapil put his No. 28 Yates Racing Ford on the pole for Sunday's Amp Energy 500. Kvapil covered the 2.66-mile distance at the restrictor-plate racetrack in 51.109 seconds (187.364 mph) Saturday to edge Casey Mears for the top spot.

With a brilliant last-lap move through the tri-oval at Talladega, Todd Bodine won Saturday's Mountain Dew 250 with a much-needed assist from new points leader Ron Hornaday. Bodine was pushing Kyle Busch through the final corner, but contact from Bodine's No. 30 loosened Busch's No. 51 enough for Bodine to dodge to the outside and pick up the win.

Qualifying
It was a Roush Fenway kind of day at Talladega as the owner saw his three trucks take the top-three spots in qualifying. Erik Darnell led the way with a fast lap of 181.753 mph. John Wes Townley and Colin Braun were second and third, also with laps of 181-plus mph.

Off the Marx

Bill Marx of the Sporting News Wire Service weighs in with his top 10:

Pos. Driver Need to know ...
1. Jimmie Johnson Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
2. Carl Edwards Shame on you, Carl.
3. Greg Biffle Imagine where he might have finished without "help" from teammate Edwards.
4. Jeff Burton Burton picks a great day to snare his fifth consecutive top-10. He's now 99 points out of the lead.
5. Kevin Harvick Harvick was one of a dozen victims of Edwards' mistake, but he still finished 20th.
6. Clint Bowyer He was the only Chase driver not to lead a lap, but he finished fifth to stay in the hunt.
7. Tony Stewart Stewart's first win since Watkins Glen 2007; Gibbs' first win since Watkins Glen 2008.
8. Matt Kenseth If points were awarded for anger toward a teammate, Kenseth would be a lot closer to Johnson than 245 back.
9. David Ragan He ties a career high with a third-place finish -- his second consecutive top-10 -- and opens a 117-point lead on Kasey Kahne (36th) for 13th.
10. DEI Hats off to Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s Paul Menard (2nd-place finish), Aric Almirola (13th) and Regan Smith (1st, 2nd or 18th).
