BackThird-place Biffle feels he had best car at Las Vegas (cont'd)

Biffle said Reiser's promotion was long overdue.

"One thing our organization lacked for 22 years, or however many years we've been there, is what I call a competition director. And that's the guy who is the liaison between all the teams, and watching way out in front of us," Biffle said. "We barely have enough time to get the freakin' car done and to the racetrack. ... The problem is you're always playing catch-up. You're never able to take a breath, let alone worry about, 'Well, where are we going to be six months from today?' You don't have that opportunity.

"So with that person in place, the load is off your shoulders. He's a crew chief and a competition-oriented guy who understands racing. He's not an accountant. He doesn't have an accounting degree or none of that crap. He's a guy who understands racing and what we have to do to get better. And so now we have that."

Right now, no one is doing anything better than Roush Fenway Racing. Biffle said what Reiser has been able to do is not only examine and evaluate the big picture, but always keep an eye on what's coming up down the road.

"Robbie's worried about Talladega right now. He's working on Talladega," Biffle said.

The Sprint Cup Series won't run at Talladega until the Aaron's 499 is held there on April 27, nearly two months from now.

"What have we learned from Daytona this year? [The importance of] transmissions, oils, wheel bearings. And he's locked that stuff away, and has gone to work on how are we going to be better at Talladega -- because we didn't have the fastest cars at Daytona," Biffle said. "We've never been able to do that before. We've always pushed the [stuff] in the corner ... We were always going here and there and testing and meanwhile the world is crumbling around us."

It's not crumbling now. Some are starting to call Roush Fenway the new Hendrick Motorsports. Biffle said that he knows sometimes Reiser complains about his new job and says he misses his old one, but he doesn't want to hear it.

"I know it's driving him crazy. But the reality is he's one of the reasons we're running like we are. And he's the reason why we're going to continue to run like we are," Biffle said. "We started coming around at the end of last season. So it's not 100 percent Robbie Reiser, bang, like magic. But he's been able to put his arms around that stuff and make sure we keep going forward.

"A lot of times what happens is you'll learn stuff, and then you'll forget it and have to go back and learn it again, testing. Instead of having stored that away, or organized in a way that you can keep ratcheting it up in the future, you're having to re-learn stuff. Hendrick has been the best at that. They've been real organized, real technical, and they've been able to succeed because of that."

Now Biffle and his fellow drivers at Roush Fenway appear to be doing the same. But while Biffle was pleased to overcome adversity to finish third Sunday, he knows it could have been even better.

"It's pretty disappointing. I mean, I gave the win away," Biffle said. "We'd have won the race."
