KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Haas CNC Racing announced on Wednesday that Ken Schrader will drive the No. 70 Chevrolet at Talladega next weekend.

"I'm definitely very excited about the opportunity to drive for Haas CNC Racing," Schrader said. "It is a younger team that is going through the growing process but yet has all of the elements in place.

"The team has an outstanding relationship with Hendrick Motorsports, and we know they have a proven engine program. We certainly don't have to second guess the equipment."

The announcement comes a week after the team released Jeremy Mayfield (read more). The No. 70 car had fallen to 36th in owner points and was not guaranteed a starting position. Former driver Johnny Sauter filled in last weekend at Phoenix, qualifying the car and finishing 37th. The No. 70 car is now 38th in owner points, 12 points out of the 35th position.

Schrader had originially been scheduled to drive next weekend's race for BAM Racing following its two-race hiatus. But on Tuesday, BAM co-owner Beth Ann Morgenthau said the team has suspended operations until the fall due to sponsorship woes (read more).

Schrader has 45 career starts at Talladega. He won there in 1988 and has 12 top-10 finishes.
