In less than a year, Aflac has become one of NASCAR's top success stories. On June 15, 2007, in a press conference at Michigan International Speedway, Aflac entered into a partnership with Roush Fenway to sponsor eight races in the Cup and Nationwide series. Then on July 6, 2007 at Daytona International Speedway, Aflac announced an agreement to become the exclusive official supplemental insurance partner of NASCAR through the 2010 season. Ironically, the driver for the Aflac car at the Daytona Nationwide Series race -- the Winn-Dixie 250 -- was Carl Edwards.
In 2008, Aflac continued its sponsorship of Edwards and Roush Fenway, signing on as primary sponsor for eight races and associate sponsor for the remaining 28. Edwards won his first race for the Aflac No. 99 Ford Fusion on April 6 when he took the checkered flag for the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
"We look forward to our expanded relationship with Carl Edwards and the world-class team at Roush Fenway Racing," said Paul S. Amos II, president, Aflac; COO, U.S. operations. "Our sponsorship has helped put Aflac in front of businesses of every size and consumers throughout the United States. We are confident that increasing our involvement with this great motorsports leader will only continue to help our business grow."
