CHECKERED FLAG: Jimmie Johnson gambles on fuel, stays out and wins for the first time this season taking the Subway Fresh Fit 500 giving team owner Rick Hendrick his first victory of 2008!!!

Lap 311 -- WHITE FLAG: Jimmie Johnson takes the white flag and it looks like the fuel gamble will pay off.

New Gear for 2012!

Lap 310 -- Chad Knaus is telling Jimmie Johnson to back it way down to save fuel.

Lap 308 -- Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton are the only three cars to not pit for fuel.

Lap 305 -- Clint Bowyer is up to second as he has yet to pit but he is more than 10 seconds behind leader Jimmie Johnson. Kevin Harvick stalled on pit road and lost a ton of time.

Lap 304 -- Kevin Harvick was up to second and ran out of fuel but was able to make it to pit road.

Lap 303 -- Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards give up their top-10 spots for fuel.

Lap 302 -- LEAD CHANGE: Mark Martin pits for fuel giving the lead to Jimmie Johnson.

Lap 300 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. gives up fourth to get fuel and two tires.

Lap 299 -- Tony Stewart is on pit road to take gas for the final time.

Lap 298 -- Martin Truex Jr. pits giving up ninth place.

Lap 297 -- Denny Hamlin gives up second to take two tires and fuel.

Lap 295 -- Jimmie Johnson is the fastest car on the track and he has caught the bumper of Denny Hamlin.

Lap 293 -- Mark Martin leads by 0.75 seconds on Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson is only 1.1 seconds behind.

Lap 292 -- Fuel will decide this race as all the leaders will have to stop in these final 20 laps.

Lap 289 -- Carl Edwards is up to sixth after passing Kyle Busch but they are eight to 10 laps from making it to the end on fuel.

Lap 287 -- The No. 8 team says they will be one lap short in regards to fuel.

Lap 284 -- Mark Martin leads by one second and they are trying to save as much fuel as possible.

Lap 277 -- Denny Hamlin passes Dale Earnhardt Jr. for second. Jimmie Johnson is on Earnhardt Jr.'s bumper for third.

Lap 275 -- Denny Hamlin is battling Dale Earnhardt Jr. for second. Mark Martin leads by 0.7 seconds.

Lap 272 -- LEAD CHANGE: Mark Martin passes Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the lead putting Junior's old car in front of his new one with 40 laps to go.

Lap 270 -- Nineteen cars are on the lead lap with Bobby Labonte the final car on the lead lap.

Lap 266 -- Due to lap cars, Mark Martin is able to catch Dale Earnhardt Jr. and is battling for the lead. Jimmie Johnson passes Kevin Harvick for fourth.

Lap 261 -- If the race stays green, just about everyone will have to pit one more time for fuel. No word on if any team thinks they can make it the rest of the way.

Lap 254 -- Carl Edwards passes Jeff Gordon for ninth.

Lap 253 -- Jimmie Johnson is back in the top five after passing Kyle Busch.

Lap 245 -- As Kasey Kahne was leaving the track to take his car to the garage he dropped some debris that Mark Martin drove over. No damage is known to the No. 8 yet.

Lap 244 -- Carl Edwards is back in the top 10 after passing Clint Bowyer.

Lap 240 -- Mark Martin is on the bumper of Dale Earnhardt Jr. challenging for the lead.

Lap 234 -- Denny Hamlin passes Mark Martin for second but Martin takes it right back.

Lap 233 -- GREEN FLAG: Dale Earnhardt Jr. brings the field to the green.

Lap 229 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 8: Kasey Kahne blows a tire and hits the wall hard bringing out the caution. Kurt Busch gets the free pass.

Lap 226 -- Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are up to seventh and eighth as they pass Greg Biffle.

Lap 224 -- Twenty-one cars are on the lead lap. Kurt Busch is currently the last car on the lead lap.

Lap 220 -- Jimmie Johnson is up to ninth after restarting 14th.

Lap 217 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin have put three seconds between them and third-place Martin Truex Jr.

Lap 199 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 7: David Ragan spins on the backstraightaway and clips the wall. David Gilliland gets the free pass.

Lap 191 -- Mark Martin now leads by 2.5 seconds. Jeff Gordon up to 10th after being a lap down. Carl Edwards is 12th after being a lap down.

Lap 179 -- Mark Martin has a 1.8-second lead on Martin Truex Jr. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin round out the top five.

Lap 175 -- Jamie McMurray is down to sixth and Kurt Busch has fallen to seventh after not pitting.

Lap 172 -- Bobby Labonte is down a cylinder and currently in the 21st position.

Lap 161 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 6: Elliott Sadler was in the top five but lost his motor putting him into the wall. Carl Edwards will get the free pass.

Lap 157 -- Despite spinning when Ryan Newman spilled oil on the track, Jeff Burton stayed on the lead lap and is currently 12th.

Lap 154 -- Martin Truex Jr. is complaining about the carburetor and the team has one on stand-by if they need to change it.

Lap 147 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 5: Reed Sorenson blows his left front tire and slams into the wall. Juan Montoya spins in an incident away from Sorenson's crash. Jeff Gordon gets the free pass.

Lap 146 -- Kyle Busch says his fuel gauge is fluctuating.

Lap 144 -- After the red flag, J.J. Yeley, Johnny Sauter and Ryan Newman are in the garage. Jeff Gordon is the first car one-lap down in 21st.

Lap 143 -- Mark Martin gets his nose below Jimmie Johnson but is unable to make the pass for the lead.

Lap 140 -- GREEN FLAG: Jimmie Johnson brings the field to the green.

Lap 135 -- YELLOW FLAG: The cars are back rolling as the red flag has been lifted. Pit road is currently closed.

Lap 135 -- RED FLAG: The race has been stopped to allow track cleanup.

Lap 134 -- Johnny Sauter has front-end damage and takes his No. 70 car to the garage. Ryan Newman also in the garage.

Lap 133 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 4: Ryan Newman's engine blows spewing oil all over the track, collecting a bunch of cars. Jeff Burton, Johnny Sauter, J.J. Yeley, Reed Sorenson and Matt Kenseth among those seen spinning or crashing. Bobby Labonte will get the free pass.

Lap 130 -- Clint Bowyer says his brakes are vibrating and his team is concerned he is being too hard on them.

Lap 127 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson takes advantage of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s misfortune and retakes the lead.

Lap 126 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. was three-wide with David Gilliland and Dario Franchitti almost running into trouble.

Lap 124 -- LEAD CHANGE: Dale Earnhardt Jr. passes Jimmie Johnson for the lead.

Lap 111 -- Carl Edwards gives up second to make his pit stop. Edwards will make an adjustment and take four tires.

Lap 110 -- Dario Franchitti, Jamie McMurray and Juan Montoya are on pit road.

Lap 109 -- Green flag stops are under way as David Gilliland hits pit road.

Lap 105 -- Twenty-nine cars are on the lead lap as Brian Vickers and Casey Mears are the latest to go one-lap down.

Lap 103 -- Jeff Gordon is complaining about his right-front spring as he sits in 17th.

Lap 101 -- J.J. Yeley is up to 26th after starting 42nd; Jeff Burton started 39th and is up to 20th.

Lap 94 -- Casey Mears was as high as 21st but has fallen to 29th.

Lap 90 -- Lap traffic has helped Carl Edwards erase the 1.8-second lead Jimmie Johnson had.

Lap 87 -- Regan Smith, Patrick Carpentier and Dave Blaney are now one lap down.

Lap 85 -- Kasey Kahne is complaining of a loose racecar and has fallen to ninth as Mark Martin completes the pass.

Lap 83 -- Matt Kenseth is out of the garage and back on the track.

Lap 79 -- Jimmie Johnson has started lapping cars as Mike Skinner, Sam Hornish Jr., Bill Elliott and Joe Nemechek are all one-lap down. Dave Blaney is the last car on the lead lap.

Lap 74 -- David Ragan is in the top 10 for the first time as he passes Ryan Newman.

Lap 71 -- Denny Hamlin and Greg Biffle move up to sixth and seventh as Ryan Newman continues to fall.

Lap 69 -- Kyle Busch is complaining his car has no grip and says they have a "30th-place car."

Lap 28 -- Jimmie Johnson passes Kyle Busch for second.

Lap 25 -- Jimmie Johnson has caught Kyle Busch and is challenging for second. Mark Martin has caught the top-four cars.

Lap 23 -- Kyle Busch goes to the outside and passes Carl Edwards for second. Jimmie Johnson saw an opening and went low to pass Edwards for third.

Lap 20 -- Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson are side-by-side battling for the lead.

Lap 18 -- Carl Edwards bumps Ryan Newman and takes the lead but Newman takes it back before they get to the line.

8:46 p.m. -- Jared Fogle, Subway's spokesman, gives the command: "Gentlemen, start your engines!"

8:40 p.m. -- Green flag has been moved to 8:53 p.m. ET due to the conclusion of the rain-delayed Yankees-Red Sox game.

8:31 p.m. -- Country artist Emerson Drive performs the national anthem.

8:30 p.m. -- PIR Chaplin Ken Bowers delivers the Invocation.

8:04 p.m. -- J.J. Yeley will start at the rear of the field due to an engine change.

8 p.m. -- FOX's pre-race coverage of the Subway Fresh Fit 500 is under way.

6:30 p.m. -- It's a perfect day in Avondale, Ariz., with the track under sunny skies and a temperature of 83 degrees. Sunset will occur around 10 p.m. ET, cooling the night sky into the mid-60s. Green flag for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. ET.
