ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Save-A-Lot food stores announced that it is joining the fight against breast cancer by partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest breast cancer advocacy organization, for the remainder of 2009.

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Save-A-Lot food stores will unveil a "pinked out" version of the No. 60 Ford Fusion to be driven by Carl Edwards in Saturday's Nationwide Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Through its partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Save-A-Lot has pledged $100,000 to aid in the fight against breast cancer and to raise awareness through the millions of NASCAR fans at the track and watching from home. The partnership is part of Save-A-Lot's corporate commitment and dedication to serving the underserved through dedicating resources to customers living every day while managing a variety of disease states.

"Everyday our customers not only live, but thrive, under unimaginable circumstances," said Save-A-Lot's director of marketing, Mark Kotcher, "Our partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure is really a celebration of our customer's ability to fight the odds."

In addition to taking the cause to the track, Save-A-Lot is promoting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in-store by selling pink reusable bags for $.99.

"Susan G. Komen for the Cure is proud to partner with Save-A-Lot in our promise to end breast cancer forever," said Katrina McGhee, vice president of global partnerships at Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "Our partnership with Save-A-Lot will help raise vital funds and awareness needed as we race for the cures."

In their second season of sponsorship with Edwards and Roush Fenway Racing, Save-A-Lot is slated as primary sponsor for 13 events and celebrated one of Edwards' four wins this season at The Milwaukee Mile in June. With Edwards currently sitting second in the championship race, Save-A-Lot looks to finish its season strong with the Komen-themed paint scheme this weekend at Kansas and at Memphis Motorsports Park on Saturday, October 24.
