Logano youngest in Cup to be Raybestos top rookie

MCHENRY, Ill. -- After a season that saw Joey Logano capture Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors 26 times in 36 races, the driver of the No. 20 Toyota became the youngest Cup Series driver to win the Raybestos Rookie of Year Award. Logano, 19, received his award at the Rookie Media Luncheon held in Charlotte following the conclusion of the NASCAR season.

Logano, who successfully utilized Raybestos brand brake packages in every Sprint Cup race he competed in this season, earned his first career Cup win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June.

"It is pretty neat to win the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award," Logano said. "This was obviously one of our big goals for the season. I really appreciate this."

Logano was joined by fellow Raybestos Rookie of the Year winners Justin Allgaier (Nationwide Series) and Johnny Sauter (Camping World Truck Series). Allgaier earned Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors 11 times in 2009 and finished the season with three top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. Sauter finished the Truck season with one win, two poles, seven top-five and 13 top-10 finishes.

"When the season started we wanted more than anything to win Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors and we knew it was going to be a tough, tall order," Allgaier said. "There were a lot of really great drivers going for it and to be a part of this Raybestos rookie group and come out on top means a lot."

Since 1998, the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award has been one of the well-respected and highly sought after end-of-season NASCAR awards. The award celebrates young drivers and their teams by recognizing their phenomenal efforts during the formative early phase of their careers.
