Six drivers have made 800 Cup Series starts, and if qualifying for Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway (5 p.m. ET, FOX) goes according to Bill Elliott's plan, he will become the seventh.

If Elliott can make the field in NASCAR's longest race of the season, he will join Richard Petty (1,184), Ricky Rudd (906), Dave Marcis (883), Terry Labonte (862), Kyle Petty (829) and Darrell Waltrip (809) in the 800 club.

The 1988 Cup champion from Dawsonville, Ga., has had a tremendous 34-year career. In his prime throughout the '80s and early '90s, Elliott finished no worse than sixth in points from 1983 to 1992. Elliott is a two-time Daytona 500 champion and was voted NASCAR's most popular driver 16 times.

Elliott has qualified for every race he attempted this season (Daytona, Atlanta and Texas) meaning an already stellar career should reach a new milestone this Memorial Day weekend.

1The Coca-Cola 600 was created to be a Memorial Day weekend tradition, but the inaugural Coca-Cola 600 wasn't run until June 19, 1960. The construction at the track wasn't finished in time and the race was pushed back a few weeks. Every race since then has been held on Memorial Day weekend.

Necessitous Numbers

0Bobby Labonte has not finished outside of the top 20 in any of his last 20 Lowe's Motor Speedway starts. In 32 Lowe's starts, Labonte has two wins, 12 top-fives and 17 top-10s.
0Since his win in 2003, Tony Stewart hasn't finished in the top five since. In that stretch, Stewart has just three top-10s and three finishes outside the top 20.
