For nearly all of the two hours during the final red flag at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Monday, David Reutimann was standing by his car without an umbrella. Beside him was his father, Buzzie.

"It's the fact that he's here," David Reutimann said when asked what it meant to have the support as he waited out the weather.

The wait was worth it. Soaked head to toe, Reutimann was named the winner of the Coca-Cola 600 when officials called the race after 227 of the scheduled 400 laps.

"We always talked about the fact that we were going to mess around and win one of these things and he wasn't going to be here. Fortunately whether it was the Truck Series, the Nationwide Series and now the Cup Series -- he's been here for all of them. It feels pretty good."

QUOTEBOOK
"It's incredible to be able to progress from where we were in '07 as a new organization, and then compete all throughout the latter half of '08 and into '09 at a level I've been really proud of. I'm real proud of the progression and real proud of the job that David [Reutimann] did [Monday]. Obviously his crew chief made an awesome call."
-- Michael Waltrip, on winning his first race as a car owner

Weather -- you can't do anything about it really. We knew it was coming, we knew it was here, but we weren't going to be able to ride around under caution for more than five laps. That was all we had of fuel left.

KYLE BUSCH

"I'll take third -- lucky for us, but unfortunate for the fans who obviously paid good money to come and watch a good race and I think NASCAR did a good job trying to get the track back green again."
-- Robby Gordon, on finishing third

"During the moment of silence, I just sat in my car and thought about what the men and women of the Armed Services have done for our country. I'm proud of NASCAR and all the drivers and crews for such a great moment."
-- Kasey Kahne, on the 3 p.m. ET moment of silence (watch video)

"We ran within the top 10 all day and I really thought we'd be racing for the win. We had to pit under that caution, but didn't think we'd end it that way. Another top-10 is good."
-- Juan Montoya, on finishing eighth

"As a fan, just sitting and watching this is frustrating and irritating, so as a competitor, I have to be real careful not to get frustrated. The guys are doing a great job out there on the race track. All of the drivers are taking it easy. The crazy thing is that you drive down in Turn 1 and for about 10 or 15 of our laps so far it's been sprinkling a little bit so you drive down there and think, 'I hope it's not raining real hard when I get there,' so that's a little nerve-racking."
-- Carl Edwards, on the rain delays Monday

"Weather -- you can't do anything about it really. We knew it was coming, we knew it was here, but we weren't going to be able to ride around under caution for more than five laps. That was all we had of fuel left."
-- Kyle Busch, on pitting before the final red flag

"To have Ryan [Newman] get the pole and run second in the 600 and for us to win the All-Star Race, it's been a pretty good two weeks for us."
-- Tony Stewart, on his race team's performance

"It just wasn't our weekend. I got together with the 77 [Sam Hornish Jr.] like 10 laps into the race. Then a tire went down and I hit the wall and messed up the fender. Later on, we got a speeding penalty. I was asking myself, 'What's next?' I'm sorry for the fans that they didn't get to see 600 miles, but I'm not sad this day's over."
-- Kevin Harvick, on his difficult day finishing 41st (watch video)

"I told them it sure was nice of them to throw in a few 'old man cautions' in there with those red flags to let me get out and rest a few minutes."
-- Bill Elliott, on his 800th career start
