Juan Montoya hasn't won a Cup race since Sonoma in 2007 -- that is a stretch of 71 races. But heading into Sunday's Toyota/SaveMart 350 at Infineon Raceway (4:30 p.m. ET, TNT), Montoya is running the best he ever has in his short Cup Series career.
Thanks to an eighth-place finish at Pocono followed by last week's sixth-place run at Michigan, Montoya has posted consecutive top-10s for the first time in the Cup Series. More importantly, he has moved himself up to 14th in points, just 43 behind 12th-place Jeff Burton.
With 11 races left until the Chase, things are shaping up perfectly for the Colombian. He heads to his best track this week, Infineon, where he has a win and a sixth-place finish in two Cup starts. Also upcoming is a trip to the other road course, Watkins Glen, and he has races upcoming at Pocono, Michigan, Bristol and Richmond -- tracks where Montoya has top-10 finishes this season.
"Heading into this weekend is encouraging for us," Montoya said. "We have some momentum, and I expect to see good results. I'm not looking at what races I'm going to run good, like I did before. We're looking at running good every week. I'm pretty encouraged, to be honest."
