Mike Skinner is on a roll, but whether it's enough to catch points leader Ron Hornaday remains to be seen. He's currently in third place, 213 points out.
Skinner goes to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend looking for his third consecutive victory. The bad news: he's never won there in six starts. The good news: his three wins this year have come at tracks at which he had never won (Kansas, Iowa and Gateway).
But there's more bad news than good for Skinner. Hornaday is going for his third consecutive victory at New Hampshire. He's the only driver with more than one win there, with three (he won the inaugural race in 1996, making a last-lap pass for his lone lead).
In addition, in the past four races, Hornaday has led all drivers in the following Loop Data statistics: Driver Rating (132.3), Average Running Position (3.4), Fastest Laps Run (99), Laps in the Top 15 percentage (99.6), Laps Led (379) and fewest Green Times Passed (69). Skinner has a Driver Rating of 101.2 (sixth-best), an Average Running Position of 8.7 (sixth) and 69 Fastest Laps Run (second).
In those races Hornaday has top-10s in each -- including three of his overall four top-fives -- finishing no worse than sixth. Skinner has a runner-up finish and a third place -- his only top-fives (three top-10s overall) -- but finished 24th in 2005 and 15th last year.
Coverage of the Heluva Good! 200 begins at 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday on SPEED.
