MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Veteran sports car driver Andy Lally will attempt to qualify for the Sprint Cup Series race at at Watkins Glen on Aug. 9. He will drive a second car for TRG Motorsports, which also fields the car for David Gilliland.

Lally, 34, has won Rolex Series championships in three different classes -- GT (2006), SGS (2004) and SRPII (2001). He also was part of the GT class-winning Rolex 24 Hour GT team in February. Lally currently drives the No. 67 Porsche in the Rolex GT Series.
Lally has two starts in the Nationwide Series -- both on road courses in 2007; he finished 29th at Montreal and 10th at Watkins Glen.
He also has 12 starts in the Truck Series, including a career-best finish of 11th at Daytona in the 2008 season opener.
Lally helped the TRG team prepare for the Cup Series road-course race at Infineon in June.
"I learned a lot that day and the guys have improved the car since then," Lally said. "I only did about 20 laps in that session so it was a good first outing in the car.
"The team had a good primary car at Infineon and I think we can even improve on that for The Glen. We have a couple of more test dates set, so I will be able to get some more miles under my belt prior to the race."
