The O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway was suspended Saturday due to severe weather after 52 of the scheduled 167 laps. The race will resume at 11 a.m. ET Monday (watch video).
Mike Skinner held the lead on a restart brought out by the second caution involving Ricky Carmichael when a light rain began and the radar showing heavy storms moving in.
After one caution for precipitation, it didn't take long for the rain to pelt the track and as the fans headed for cover amid accompanying thunder and flashes of lightning, NASCAR red-flagged the race.
Kansas Speedway doesn't have lights, and the impending darkness made it impossible to wait out the storms. The race started at 5:09 p.m. local time and was red-flagged at 5:55 p.m.
About 30 minutes after the race was called, tornado sirens went off at the track and a local TV station showed a twister on the ground to the southwest. Most of the fans had already left by then.
The race will resume where it left off, with Skinner out front followed by Brian Ickler, Matt Crafton, Ron Hornaday and Brian Scott. Hornaday began the race on the pole (lineup).
MRN Radio will resume its coverage at 10:45 a.m. ET; SPEED's TV broadcast will begin at 11 a.m. ET.
