CHECKERED FLAG: Matt Kenseth becomes the fifth driver in history to start the season 2-for-2 as he wins the Auto Club 500. This is Kenseth's third win at Auto Club Speedway.

Lap 249 -- WHITE FLAG: Matt Kenseth leads by one second and will win his second race in a row this season.

Lap 248 -- Jeff Gordon has accepted second-place as he backs off Matt Kenseth, making sure he saves his tires.

Lap 247 -- Greg Biffle on the move as he jumps up to fourth.

Lap 246 -- Matt Kenseth is coming up on lap traffic. Jeff Gordon now trails by 0.9 seconds.

Lap 245 -- Jeff Gordon is using all of the track to cut into Matt Kenseth's lead. Kenseth is able to hold his lead though.

Lap 243 -- Aric Almirola has lost his engine and is on the apron.

Lap 241 -- Greg Biffle passes Carl Edwards for sixth as he tries to make up for his pit road error.

Lap 240 -- Matt Kenseth has extended his lead on Jeff Gordon with 10 laps to go.

Lap 237 -- Jeff Gordon has cut .2 seconds off of Matt Kenseth's lead. Greg Biffle passes Jimmie Johnson for seventh.

Lap 234 -- Matt Kenseth has stretched his lead to 0.7 seconds.

Lap 233 -- Matt Kenseth is running the bottom and Jeff Gordon is running the top and Gordon just can't close the gap.

Lap 230 -- Jeff Gordon ran the fastest lap and has reached the bumper of Matt Kenseth.

Lap 229 -- Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson have a battle going for sixth.

Lap 225 -- It's a two-man race as Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon have pulled ahead of Kyle Busch by two seconds.

Lap 221 -- Matt Kenseth leads by 0.7 seconds on Jeff Gordon. Kyle Busch is 1.9 seconds behind Kenseth.

Lap 219 -- Kurt Busch gets loose and Denny Hamlin passes him for fourth.

Lap 217 -- Kurt Busch passes Denny Hamlin for fourth. The top-three are single file.

Lap 196 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon goes low in Turns 3 and 4 and passes Matt Kenseth for the lead.

Lap 191 -- Kyle Busch passes Kurt Busch for fourth. Jeff Gordon has closed on leader Matt Kenseth.

Lap 189 -- Jamie McMurray is concerned about his brakes.

Lap 174 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is back on pit road with the hood up to try and make repairs.

Lap 173 -- Robby Gordon too fast exiting pit road and will make a pass-through penalty.

Lap 172 -- LEAD CHANGE: Tony Stewart stays on the track and leads for the first time today. Juan Montoya, Mark Martin, David Stremme, David Reutimann and Michael Waltrip also stay on the track and don't pit. Dale Earnhardt Jr. back on pit road.

Lap 171 -- All the leaders except six hit pit road.
• Matt Kenseth with four tires and he's concerned about his engine temperature

Lap 170 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 4: Rain is falling again bringing out the caution. Brian Vickers gets the free pass.

Lap 169 -- Jimmie Johnson's car popped out of gear and is slowing on the track. Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. also having some engine issues.

Lap 168 -- Scott Speed is on pit road reporting no power to his engine.

Lap 164 -- Jimmie Johnson has caught the bumper of leader Matt Kenseth. Jeremy Mayfield is on pit road.

Lap 159 -- David Ragan is dropping back to the rear of the pack because his engine is overheating.

Lap 158 -- The top six have put a little space between them and the rest of the field. Three seconds separates Kyle Busch in sixth and Carl Edwards in seventh.

Lap 156 -- Jimmie Johnson completes the pass of teammate Jeff Gordon for second. Matt Kenseth leads by 0.9 seconds.

Lap 155-- Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle have a great battle going for second.

Lap 154 -- Jimmie Johnson is flying as he passes Greg Biffle for third and is closing on Jeff Gordon for second.

Lap 144 -- LEAD CHANGE: Juan Montoya stays out to lead a lap and collect five bonus points.

Lap 143 -- All the lead-lap cars hit pit road.

Lap 139 -- Jeff Gordon has caught the bumper of leader Greg Biffle and is challenging for the lead.

Lap 136 -- Michael Waltrip goes a lap down -- next up is David Stremme and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Lap 135 -- Jeff Gordon goes high to pass Greg Biffle but Michael Waltrip is in the way and Gordon backs off.

Lap 134 -- Greg Biffle puts Kasey Kahne and Sam Hornish Jr. a lap down.

Lap 131 -- Nineteen cars are on the lead lap following a second round of green-flag stops. The top five after the stops:

Lap 126 -- Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on pit road. Chassis adjustment for Junior.

Lap 125 -- Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne on pit road. Johnson with chassis adjustment.

Lap 124 -- Michael Waltrip, Clint Bowyer and Reed Sorenson make their pit stops.

Lap 123 -- Kurt Busch and Jeff Burton are on pit road. Busch will drop the track bar.

Lap 121 -- Travis Kvapil and Elliott Sadler hit pit road.

Lap 120 -- Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch are racing hard for seventh position.

Lap 119 -- David Stremme begins another round of green-flag pit stops.

Lap 118 -- Greg Biffle has closed the gap on leader Jeff Gordon, trailing by 0.8 seconds.

Lap 115 -- Marcos Ambrose goes a lap down leaving just 21 cars on the lead lap. Some rain drops are falling in Turns 3 and 4 but not bad enough to bring out the caution.

Lap 113 -- Tough day for the RCR cars. Kevin Harvick is 14th but Clint Bowyer, Casey Mears and Jeff Burton are all a lap down scored 23rd, 32nd and 35th, respectively.

Lap 109 -- David Ragan gets up into the wall but it appears his car is OK.

Lap 107 -- Juan Montoya and Mark Martin have been very solid running in the top 12 most of the day and are currently 11th and 10th, respectively.

Lap 103 -- Eight seconds separates Kurt Busch in fifth and Tony Stewart in sixth. Jeff Gordon's lead is two seconds on Greg Biffle.

Lap 101 -- Ryan Newman and Martin Truex Jr. go a lap down as 23 cars are on the lead lap.

Lap 98 -- Matt Kenseth gets around Kurt Busch for fourth.

Lap 96 -- Greg Biffle passes Jimmie Johnson for second.

Lap 95 -- Jeff Gordon is out front by 2.2 seconds.

Lap 90 -- Thirty cars are on the lead lap following green-flag stops. The top-five after the stops:

Lap 88 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon is back out front after this round of green-flag stops comes to a close.

Lap 87 -- LEAD CHANGE: Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth are on pit road. Edwards' pit box is further down than Biffle's giving Edwards the lead.

Lap 86 -- LEAD CHANGE: Greg Biffle takes the lead as Jeff Gordon hits pit road. Gordon with no changes.

Lap 85 -- Ryan Newman, Jimmie Johnson and Elliott Sadler hit pit road. Johnson with a chassis adjustment.

Lap 84 -- Kurt Busch, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Reed Sorenson are on pit road. Busch's engine is running hot and they pull tape.

Lap 83 -- David Stremme and Martin Truex Jr. are on pit road.

Lap 82 -- Travis Kvapil begins green-flag stops as he hits pit road.

Lap 81 -- Kurt Busch is back in front of Greg Biffle for third.

Lap 79 -- Casey Mears, Jeff Burton and John Andretti are a lap down.

Lap 78 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon goes low to pass Jimmie Johnson for the lead.

Lap 76 -- Jeff Gordon smacked the wall in Turn 2 and might have some damage. Greg Biffle passes Kurt Busch for third.

Lap 75 -- Scott Speed and Joey Logano go a lap down. Jeff Gordon is closing on leader Jimmie Johnson.

Lap 73 -- David Gilliland goes a lap down -- next on the list would be Scott Speed.

Lap 71 -- Jeremy Mayfield has gone a lap down and Jeff Gordon has closed Jimmie Johnson's lead to 0.8 seconds.

Lap 70 -- Scott Riggs has taken his car to the garage.

Lap 69 -- Tony Stewart has caught Kyle Busch and is challenging for sixth.

Lap 68 -- Jeff Gordon finally gets around Kurt Busch for second.

Lap 67 -- Scott Riggs is on pit road under green and goes a lap down.

Lap 63 -- The field is pretty spread out right now and Jimmie Johnson is creeping up on the rear of the field.

Lap 58 -- Jimmie Johnson leads by 1.5 seconds while Kurt Busch has been able to keep Jeff Gordon behind him.

Lap 54 -- Jeff Gordon is all over Kurt Busch looking to pass him for second.

Lap 50 -- Dave Blaney has slowed on the track and has entered pit road. Blaney's No. 66 has no power.

Lap 49 -- Kyle Busch is on the bumper of David Ragan and challenging for sixth.

Lap 47 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson gets a good run on the backstretch and just beats Kurt Busch to the line.

Lap 44 -- LEAD CHANGE: John Andretti stays out to lead a lap. Casey Mears stayed out when the leaders pitted but didn't cross the start/finish line before leader Jimmie Johnson. Mears is now on pit road. Reed Sorenson with a pass-through penalty for entering and exiting pit road too fast.

Lap 42 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 2: A few raindrops have returned bringing out the second caution. There is no free pass.

Lap 41 -- Pole winner Brian Vickers is up to 21st after starting the race in the rear of the field.

Lap 39 -- Joe Nemechek is going to the garage.

Lap 36 -- The top-four of Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffle have opened up a three-second lead on the rest of the field.

Lap 33 -- Jimmie Johnson is out front by 1.7 seconds in front of Kurt Busch.

Lap 31 -- Matt Kenseth is up to 12th after restarting 20th.

Lap 29 -- David Ragan is up to seventh after being as low as 19th.

Lap 27 -- Kurt Busch passes Jamie McMurray for second and Jeff Gordon follows behind to get third.

Lap 26 -- Greg Biffle isn't happy with the air pressure in his car.

Lap 24 -- Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffle pass Kyle Busch for fourth and fifth.

Lap 23 -- Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch get around Jeff Gordon for third and fourth.

Lap 22 -- GREEN FLAG: Jimmie Johnson brings the field to speed.

Lap 21 -- The track is being reported as dry and the race will resume next time by.

Lap 19 -- Just as the race was ready to go green the rain picked up a little and dampened the track forcing officials to send the jet dryers back out to dry Turns 1 and 2.

Lap 17 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joey Logano and Dave Blaney among handful of cars to top off on fuel.

Lap 16 -- Aric Almirola and John Andretti hit pit road.

Lap 15 -- The race is still under caution as the cars help dry the track.

Lap 11 -- The track is getting worse and officials are sending jet dryers on the track.

Lap 9 -- After leaving pit road, Ryan Newman lost the end plate from his splitter and will have to return to the pits and replace it.

Lap 8 -- Ryan Newman's No. 39 has lost its transponder so he will come down pit road to get another transponder. The team can't do any work on the car and Newman will get his spot back in the running order (22nd).

Lap 7 -- Pit road is open and the top-19 cars stay out. Robby Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano and Dale Earnhardt Jr. among those to pit.

Lap 6 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 1: Rain has brought out the first caution of the race. There is no free pass.

Lap 5 -- There are sprinkles at the track but they are light.

Lap 4 -- Kyle Busch is up to fifth after starting 10th. Jimmie Johnson has already opened up a one-second lead.

Lap 2 -- The top 15 are single-file while the rest of the field is running three- and four-wide.

Lap 1 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson gets a great run on the outside and leads the first lap.

6:22 p.m. ET -- GREEN FLAG: Jamie McMurray brings the field to the green and the Auto Club 500 is under way.

6:15 p.m. ET -- The cars are rolling off pit road and onto the track for their warm-up laps.

6:11 p.m. ET -- Brian Vickers, Michael Waltrip and David Reutimann will move to the rear for engine changes. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will go to the rear for a transmission change and Reed Sorenson will start in the back after crashing in final practice Saturday and switching to a backup car.

6:09 p.m. ET -- Hugh Laurie, Golden Globe winner from House, gives the command: "Gentlemen, start your engines!"

6:01 p.m. ET -- Little Big Town performs the national anthem.

6 p.m. ET -- Jeff Hamilton from MRO delivers the Invocation.

5 p.m. ET -- Pre-race coverage of the Auto Club 500 from Auto Club Speedway is under way on FOX.

4:42 p.m. ET -- Last year the spring Fontana race was a nightmare due to rain -- that shouldn't be a problem this year. It will be mostly cloudy all race with temperatures in the 50s, with just a small threat of rain.
