BROOKLYN, Mich. -- With the help of generous race fans, Michigan International Speedway's charitable arm -- MIS Cares -- will donate $6,651 for the Haiti relief effort.

In all, $1,651 was raised during the week-long donation period, which includes a $1,201 donation by Hillside Middle School in Northville, Mich.

MIS Cares will match all donations that were given, but has also raised its overall donation to $5,000 for the effort.

All money raised will be donated to the American Red Cross for Haiti relief.

"We appreciate the generosity and support from all of our fans that gave for the Haiti relief effort," MIS director of community and government affairs Alisha Cottrell said. "Being able to provide a donation for this effort is important to us and our fans. We want to help Haiti in their efforts to overcome these tragic events that have occurred in their country."

With the $5,000 donation to Haiti relief, MIS Cares has now made contributions of more than $20,000 to various organizations in its first year of existence. Organizations that have received donations from MIS Cares include the American Red Cross, Michigan United Conservation Clubs, the Salvation Army's Toys for Tots campaign and now the Red Cross' Haiti relief effort.
