1925: Driver Doug Yates is born on this day. Yates, not to be confused with the Doug Yates (born 1967) who is the son of Cup championship team owner Robert Yates, started 86 Cup Series races from 1952 to 1965. Yates was winless in his eight seasons with eight top-five finishes, 28 top-10s and two poles. He died in 1996. Yates' best finish was second in the 1964 Sandlapper 200 at Columbia (S.C.) Speedway. He finished more than two laps behind David Pearson on the half-mile dirt track.
