Davis goes Gaga over chick flicks, Zac Efron

Little TV on driver's schedule, but plenty of overheard cell phone calls

Marc Davis, who is driving the No. 23 Chevrolet for R3 Motorsports at Dover, answer's this week's pop culture questions.

1. If there is one, whom do you predict to be this season's Chase spoiler?

Davis: I don't know about a spoiler, really. There is a lot of talent spread among those twelve drivers though so just add my picks to the mix of mathematical equations out there. My cards are on the No. 11 and 18 cars. I mean, Kyle [Busch]'s been the one to watch all year as well as Denny [Hamlin] and they can both tear it up on the track without worrying much about opinions.

2. What are you most looking forward to on the fall TV calendar?

Who knew I would sit through two hours of Zac Efron and be OK with it?

-- MARC DAVIS

Davis: I don't really watch TV. I watch a lot of movies instead due to travel. I'm going to get a lot of heat for admitting this, but lately I've been forced to watch girl movies thanks to my girlfriend's influence. Sad and secret part is I kind of like them. Who knew I would sit through two hours of Zac Efron and be OK with it?

3. Was Lady Gaga's raw meat dress an offensive move or political statement?

Davis: I have to admit, I'm glad I don't watch TV just for the sheer fact that I missed that outfit. To me, that's one big political statement, or dressing in her freezer, maybe, while asleep? Maybe it was a hot day outside, she wanted something cool to wear. We should introduce her to the Impact staff. They have cooling suits for that.

4. If you had time to author and publish a book, what would it be about?

Davis: I really would write a book about the lifestyles of young racers. The average fan has no idea the struggle it really takes for 95 percent of the guys and girls out there who race. It might start with parental support based on them being minors, but they are ultimately the ones who have to put the time, sweat, tears and commitment into the race every week. So when they get to the highest level it sometimes it looks easy to the fans. No matter what, a lot of sacrifice had to happen to get there over years and years. We just don't talk about that enough in our sport. It's a quiet acceptance.

5. Should female reporters be allowed in locker rooms?

Davis: I'd say yes. It's a gender-neutral society these days, but those ladies have to be ready to expect the unexpected, if you know what I mean. After all, the locker room is, at its basic level, a place to shower and change for the players in any sport. I'd say the same thing about male reporters in the locker room. Is the question that important that you need to ask me it while I'm in a towel and barefoot? That's when I'm really glad I'm in racing. We have motorhomes for that post-interview.

6. Eavesdropping on people's cell phone conversations ... everyone does it. Do you?

Davis: Yes, I do, but I sure wouldn't do it if people didn't yell on the phone next to me, whether in the car, airport, restaurant or other public place. I really don't want to hear their conversations, I promise you.
