Reutimann knows his odds, but doesn't bet them

LAS VEGAS -- Never tell David Reutimann the odds. Although here in Las Vegas, it's pretty easy to walk into any casino sports book and find them. While Jimmie Johnson carries 5-1 odds to win Sunday's Shelby American, Reutimann is a 60-1 longshot.

And that's fine by him, because he's not a betting man.

"I do need to go look and see where I'm at," Reutimann said. "I don't bet on anything, but just to see where I am.

"I haven't this year, because when I went the first couple years it was kind of depressing the odds they had of me doing anything. I quit looking. You can bet on anything and everything. I generally don't because I have enough things to spend money on besides that. I think I'll hold on to it if I can."

In fact, Reutimann attended Martin Truex Jr.'s poker tournament this week, mainly in an attempt to learn more about the game in case he wanted to put his chips on the table somewhere down the line.

"I don't know how to play poker," Reutimann said. "I just made a donation to his foundation and figured that was the best way for me. If I went and played poker, someone would have to sit next to me and tell me what to do next. I figured I'd save everybody the hassle.

"I didn't know you could bring a coach. That's all stuff that gets left out at the end. I think during the year I'll practice a little bit and maybe next year come back and be able to lose my money."

Still, based on Reutimann's runs on intermediate tracks since the Sprint Cup Series visited here a year ago, there may be good reasons for him part with two dollars at the betting window this weekend. (Continued)
