RICHMOND, Va. -- Feud? What feud?

Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon made nice Friday at Richmond International Raceway, in the wake of an explosion last week that Johnson called "un-Jeff Gordon-like."

Two days after Johnson blocked Gordon onto the apron in Turn 3 at Talladega -- and eight days after the teammates roughed each other up at Texas -- team owner Rick Hendrick orchestrated a Tuesday conference call between the combatants.

We laughed about a lot of stuff, and I feel like the most important thing is that all the communication that we have during the week and at the race track, what that contributes to our success as a group is too important to let a rivalry escalate out of control.

The call wasn't on a party line, but a party line is what came out of it.

"We had a good conversation this week," said Gordon, who at Talladega characterized himself as "very pissed off." "It's amazing what happens when you get Mr. H involved. The three of us had a good conversation. I think we all recognize what contributes to everything that happened at Texas as well as Talladega.

"We laughed about a lot of stuff, and I feel like the most important thing is that all the communication that we have during the week and at the race track, what that contributes to our success as a group is too important to let a rivalry escalate out of control.

"It's OK to have rivalries -- we understand that -- to be competitive. We're very competitive. All that is good and healthy. That is what we talked about. He pleaded his case and I pleaded mine and we both said, 'Yep.' It's all good and we moved on."

Johnson thought Gordon came away with a clearer understanding that the incident at Talladega was a mistake in judgment on Johnson's part.

"I think when Jeff jumped out of the car, he didn't realize that it was just a bad decision on my part to come down and try to get in front in that lane," Johnson said. "So our conversation was pretty good, to be honest with you.

"In a lot of ways, from Rick's standpoint, my standpoint, and Jeff's, it was just a mistake that I made. And unfortunately, coming off the heels of Texas and the fact that Jeff crashed after that [at Talladega] and the emotions were high and he got out of the car and said some things that he probably didn't want to. ...

"It would be wrong for me to assume what his emotions are and what his feelings are. But certainly it was a little un-Jeff Gordon-like to say what he did. ..."

Gordon disagreed with the last assertion.

"I didn't think it was un-Jeff Gordon-like," he said. "It's just that you don't expect it because it's Jimmie Johnson."

Aside from that, Gordon considers the situation resolved.

"What happened at Talladega was really not as big of a deal to me as what happened at Texas," he said. "It was just after Texas -- what had gone on -- so what happened at Talladega just escalated me and how I was feeling about the situation."

But that doesn't mean Gordon won't race Johnson hard in the future.

"In order to win races, you're going to have to push and shove a little bit," Gordon said.
