Brian Vickers, who was pulled from Red Bull Racing's No. 83 Toyota last weekend at Dover International Speedway, is on the initial entry list for this weekend's All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Vickers released

Brian Vickers was released from the hospital Friday after being diagnosed with blood clots on Wednesday.

Vickers, 26, was hospitalized May 12 in the Washington, D.C., area after discomfort in his chest led him to an emergency room, where blood clots -- including at least one near a lung -- were discovered in his veins.

Casey Mears replaced Vickers in the car for Sunday's Autism Speaks 400 and finished 22nd, two laps down and one position ahead of Red Bull teammate Scott Speed. Team officials said Mears would drive the car until Vickers could return, and Mears said Sunday evening he expected Vickers to be back for Saturday night's All Star Race.

"Right now Brian is our primary driver so he remains listed for the All-Star Race," a Red Bull racing spokesperson said. "He is currently in Charlotte undergoing evaluation and tests from specialists and his physician, Dr. Jerry Petty, so we won't have the final results until later in the week."

Vickers, who had never missed attempting an event in six previous full Cup seasons, qualified for the All-Star Race by winning last year's fall Michigan race. NASCAR said over the weekend that Red Bull Racing could request a driver change for the non-points special event if Vickers was unable to get back into the car. The team has until the first practice at noon ET Friday to make that request and then it has to be approved by NASCAR.

On the initial entry list for the Saturday night companion event, the Sprint Showdown that qualifies the top-two finishers for the All-Star Race, Mears is entered in Tommy Baldwin Racing's No. 36 Chevrolet, as he initially was at Dover before he was replaced in that car by Johnny Sauter.

Vickers was released from the Washington-area hospital Friday and returned to the Charlotte, N.C., area. After missing Sunday's race, he fell from 20th to 27th in the Cup Series drivers' standings.
