DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- David Reutimann says he has a "handshake deal" to remain at Michael Waltrip Racing.

Reutimann, who has driven in the Cup Series for the team since its arrival to the series in 2007, said Friday that it was a multi-year deal.

"I haven't signed anything," Reutimann said following Cup Series practice at Daytona. "We've got a handshake deal basically, a verbal agreement, of what we're going to do.

"I feel pretty good of where we need to be, but I think we're in good shape."

The 40-year-old Reutimann has 116 career Cup starts with a win in the 2009 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. He has 17 career top-10 finishes and three career poles. His best finish in points came last year when he was 16th.

"It will be great to get [the negotiations] over with and move along," Reutimann said.

Reutimann is 19th in the current standings and 150 points out of 12th with nine races left before the Chase field is determined.

"We've been working on the contract for about a month," MWR general manager Ty Norris said. "Basically, all the elements are done as far as we're concerned."
