Randolph, who most recently worked with Bobby Labonte, will be working with Carmichael and current crew chief Mike Fritts on race-weekend setup while Fritts remains in charge of duties at the shop.

"I'm really looking forward to joining Ricky this weekend and helping build something with Turner Motorsports and the No. 4 team," Randolph said. "There's a lot of talent there -- they're building a great foundation and I'm excited to come on board and do what I can to help the team develop further."

Team owner Steve Turner is pleased with the progress Carmichael has made and is confident in the team's ability to succeed.

"Ricky has really improved since last year, but we feel like we've got to give him all of the depth that he needs and, as a new team with a young driver, it's been difficult to do that. By bringing Doug on board, with his experience, I feel like we'll be able to capitalize on what we've started and really grow the team," Turner said. "I'm very confident that the No. 4 will win races this year."
