For NASCAR fans, Las Vegas Motor Speedway is one of the most exciting stops on the schedule. Needless to say, there is plenty in Vegas to fill up your race weekend; but before you go, there are some things you need to know:

Getting There

From California, Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas: Take I-15 North to Exit 54 (Speedway Blvd.) The speedway is about 12 miles north of downtown Las Vegas. Alternate route is Las Vegas Boulevard North, but this route is not recommended.

From Salt Lake City, St.George and Mesquite: Take I-15 South to Exit 54.

From Laughlin and Boulder City: Take US-93/95 to I-15 North, Follow I-15 North to Exit 54

What to Bring

The LVMS Web site has a list of prohibited items, but not one for allowed items. Seat cushions and scanner bags are not on the prohibited list.

No coolers are permitted in the grandstand seating area at LVMS. No food or beverages are permitted, with the exception of bottled water. If you carry in a beer or soda, you will be made to dump it out before entering. No alcoholic beverages may be brought into the grandstand seating area at LVMS. Beer is available at all LVMS concession stands.

It can be very cold at Vegas! I was told that in 2002 it never got much above 32 degrees all day and the wind howls across the desert. Bring a jacket and long pants just in case.

Where to Park

Please visit the official Web site as they have very specific instructions on parking lots. For some, you will need a pass and it is better to know which one those are before you head to the track.

If you can, plan on tailgating after the race, too, because a single wreck on I-15 can hold up the parking lots for hours.
