Momentum on Stenhouse Jr.'s side as he leaves bright lights of Hollywood
What a week in California! My guys and I flew out to Fontana on Thursday. Once we landed, I drove to Oakley's headquarters to meet up with Sheldon O'Connell who handles my Oakley endorsement. He took me on a tour of their headquarters and showed me some of the upcoming products that Oakley will release later on this year. Luckily, I brought my big suit case because Sheldon sent me home with a lot of Oakley product. The guys brought me a stout Mustang to California. During the race, the track kept changing so our No. 6 Roush Fenway Ford went from loose to tight back to loose. My team did a great job all day adjusting on the car to get it near perfect for the closing laps of the race. We were reeling in Joey [Logano] at the end but ran out of time and came home with a solid second-place finish; gaining seven points in the Nationwide championship points standings. Sunday, I stayed over for the Sprint Cup race in Fontana to watch in the NASCAR suite with some actors, producers and executives from Hollywood. It was really neat to talk to those guys about their profession and see their excitement while watching the race. Who knows, I might be a movie star someday! The prior weekend we raced in Bristol. Bristol is always a fun place to go because it is a small half-mile track with high banks. Our No. 6 Ford was strong all weekend. We were the fastest car in the practice sessions on Friday, led 41 laps of the race and were in the lead when the final caution was displayed. The race came down to pit strategy. Two cars gambled and stayed out, which shuffled us back. We came home with a solid sixth-place finish. It was great to have a good showing for [sponsors] Cargill and Blackwell Angus as they made their debut on our car this season. They were such a huge supporter of me and my team last year, as we competed for the championship. After the race, Cargill brought its guests to my coach and we grilled out some Bubba Burgers. It was great to meet some new faces, see some familiar faces from last year, and just have time to relax and catch up. We have two weekends off before we head to Texas. I wish we were racing because we have momentum on our side. I don't have any plans as of right now but I am very sporadic so I will find something to do. Well, I hope everyone has a great holiday and I will catch back up with you before we head to Texas. Make sure you follow me on twitter, @stenhousejr, and Google +. Until next time...later!
