Driver presents award, mingles with the stars
Danica Patrick got dressed up, walked the red carpet, posed for pictures, presented an award and even shared a hug with LeBron James.
Yes, Wednesday was a busy night for the NASCAR driver, who brought boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. as her guest to the ESPY Awards, the annual awards show hosted by ESPN.
Patrick has become a staple at the summer event honoring the best sporting moments of the year -- she has presented an award every year since 2005. This year, she and actor Don Cheadle presented the ESPY for “Best Male Athlete”, which James won after leading the Miami Heat to the NBA championship for the second consecutive year.
In addition to being a presenter, Patrick garnered a mention from ‘Jay Z’ during the show. OK, so it wasn’t the rapper-turned-sports-agent, but rather “Saturday Night Live” cast member Jay Pharoah doing a spot-on impression of the Brooklyn mogul. As part of the skit, Pharoah -- very much in character -- suggested that Patrick sign with him, and then showed a picture of Patrick in her green GoDaddy fire suit with pictures of Jay Z’s head plastered all over it.
Below are some pictures from the event:
