NASCAR Foundation-planned event underway now

The NASCAR Foundation is holding an online auction with all proceeds going to the trust fund established for Charlie Dean, son of former NASCAR driver Jason Leffler. Jason Leffler died June 12.

Auction items are listed at www.jasonlefflerauction.com and include racing memorabilia, driving experiences and driver meet-and-greets. Among the items already received include a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fire suit, donated by the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Foundation.

Leffler died following injuries sustained in a crash at a sprint car race on a short track in New Jersey. He was 37.

Since his death, friends and former competitors spoke of Leffler’s deep love for his son, and how Charlie’s birth transformed the driver.

At the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, Leffler was among the athletes shown on a video screen during a tribute to those who had lost their lives.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who was at the show with girlfriend and fellow NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, snapped a picture and tweeted it out, with the following message: “Awesome to see @JasonLeffler remembered at the #ESPYS
