3: The number of points by which Ryan Newman trails Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Danica Patrick in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings. Newman finished fifth in the season-opening Daytona 500, but from that point, his luck has been horrendous. Two blown right front tires knocked him out of the March 3 race at Phoenix in 40th place. A blown engine led to a 38th-place finish Sunday at Las Vegas. As a result, Newman is 31st in the Cup standings, three points behind Patrick in 30th. The good news for Newman is that he's only 38 points behind Aric Almirola in 10th, the last guaranteed Chase position.
