Matt Borland was born Sept. 2, 1971 in Haslett, Mich., and now resides in Cornelius, N.C. with his wife, Stacy and their daughter, Samantha.
In 2002, Borland led Ryan Newman to win the Cup series Raybestos Rookie of the Year title, and earned two victories, six pole positions, 22 top-ten and 14 top-five finishes.
Prior to 2002, he contributed to Newman's eight poles, two wins, five top-fives and 11 top-tens in an ARCA-Busch-Cup combo schedule.
Borland joined Penske Racing South in November of 1999 as an engineer, and in April of that year was named crew chief of the ALLTEL team. Borland worked for PAC West Racing CART Team, Pi Research and General Motors before moving south.
He holds a mechanical engineering degree from General Motors Institute. He enjoys racing RC cars and spending time with his family.
