	Philippe Lopez was born in Verdun, France, to his mother, a native of France, and his father, an American Army officer. Lopez spent three years in mechanical engineering at Texas A & M University. Since 1997, Lopez has worked as crew chief for Steve Park, Ron Hornaday, Rick Mast, Darrell Waltrip, Dave Blaney, Hut Stricklin and Kenny Wallace.
