Steve Boyer has been an engineer at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates since 2001 and was first paired up with driver Sterling Marlin at the start of the 2002 season.

In his first season at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates in 2001, Boyer was assigned the task of engineer for driver Jason Leffler. In September of that year, Boyer earned his first pole in the inaugural race at Kansas Speedway and was subsequently transferred over to the No. 40 crew as race engineer with Sterling Marlin at the end of the season.

During his tenure as race engineer for Marlin, the team led the points for 26 straight weeks in 2002, had two wins, 11 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes. During the last six races of the 2004 season Boyer, along with team manager Tony Glover, was asked to assume a leadership role with the 40 team and based on Sterlingıs improved performance over those last six races, he proved to team management he could get the job done.

Before joining Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Boyer worked nine and a half years for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. During his tenure there Boyer worked in tire design for NASCAR Elite and Touring Divisions, CART and NASCAR Nextel Cup.

Boyer was born in Olivia, Minn., on January 27, 1972 and currently resides with his wife Abbey; and children Allie and Kylie in Cornelius, N.C. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1993 from the University of Nebraska and his Masters in Engineering in 2000 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
