1990: Fred Dove died on this day at age 62. Dove started 47 Cup races from 1952 to 1955, posting 12 top-10s. His best finish, his only top-five, came in his final race, a 200-lap event on the half-mile dirt track of Forsyth County Fairgrounds in Winston-Salem, N.C. Dove finished third, three laps behind winner Lee Petty. Jim Paschal was second, a half lap behind Petty.
