1980: Darrell Waltrip wins the Winston Western 500 at Riverside by 2.97 seconds over Dale Earnhardt. The race actually began six days earlier, but the opening 24 laps were run under caution because of rain before it was postponed until Jan. 19. Waltrip won five races at Riverside for his only road-race wins in the Cup Series.
