1934: George Follmer, a road-racing ace, is born on this day. Follmer won four road-racing championships from 1965 to 1976, including the 1972 Can-Am title. In addition to 20 starts in the Cup Series, Follmer also raced in USAC and Formula One. His best finish in three Indy 500 starts was 15th in 1971, and in 1986 he finished third in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Follmer had three top-fives among his five top-10 finishes in the Cup Series, topped by a fourth-place finish at Atlanta in March 1974.
