1982: In a field of 21 cars, Morgan Shepherd finishes 16th in his first Nationwide Series start, the Mountain Dew 300 at .363-mile Hickory (N.C.) Speedway. It is the sixth race of the series. It wouldn't take long for Shepherd to get his first win. In his second start, in the 12th race of the season (also at Hickory), Shepherd wins the Sunkist 200 from the pole. Shepherd, who is still a regular in the Nationwide Series at age 69, has 15 wins in 293 starts over 26 seasons. He also has four wins in 514 starts in the Cup Series with his last start coming in 2006.
