1971: Richard Petty wins the last Cup race at Smoky Mountain Raceway. Petty leads 134 of 200 laps on the .520-mile oval in Maryville, Tenn., and finishes 8 seconds ahead of Benny Parsons, the only other car on the lead lap. Pole-sitter Friday Hassler is third, one lap down. The first Cup race at Smoky Mountain was in August 1965, and Petty wins six of the 12 Cup races the track hosted, including the final two.
