1962: Richard Petty wins the 104th Cup race of his career but only his second starting outside the top 10. Petty starts 16th in the field of 30 at .625-mile North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway and wins the Gwyn Staley 400 by 1.5 laps in front of Bobby Isaac. Isaac leads the first 51 laps, Petty the final 349. It is Petty's first win in eight years when he starts outside the top 10.
