1981: Morgan Shepherd wins his first Cup race, the Virginia 500 at Martinsville. The victory comes in his 15th start but 11 years after his debut in the Cup Series at Hickory in June 1970. Shepherd starts eight races in the '70s before going full time in 1981 at age 39. Shepherd will finish his Cup career in 2006 with four wins in 514 starts. Shepherd is still racing in NASCAR at 69. He is 21st in the Nationwide Series, where he has 15 victories in 296 career starts.
