1955: Ron Hornaday, father of four-time Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr., makes his Cup debut in a 100-lap race on Arizona State Fairgrounds' 1-mile dirt track in Phoenix. Hornaday finishes 14th in the 29-car field. Tim Flock leads all 100 laps and wins by a lap over Marvin Panch. Hornaday, a two-time NASCAR West Coast champion in the 1960s, starts 16 more Cup races in his career, all on the West Coast, and posts two top-five finishes.
