1956: In his sixth start in NASCAR's Convertible Series, Jimmy Massey gets his first victory. Massey came close in his first five starts, finishing second three times and fourth and fifth. On this day, Massey has little competition at the end of a 200-lap race on Columbia (S.C.) Speedway's half-mile dirt track. Of the 22 cars that start the race, four are running at the end. Massey wins by one lap over Possum Jones and two over Jimmie Lewallen. Bill Lang is the only other driver still on the track, but he finishes 17th, 136 laps back.
