UTV Blog: Charlotte

June 23, 2011, Special to NASCAR.COM, NASCAR.com

The Ultimate Tailgating Vehicle has been on the road now for two weeks and people are getting more excited by the minute. Fans are constantly trying to bribe us to rig the drawing, but we don't have power like that. Plus, cheating takes the fun out of it! Either way, John still loves flattery and Tim loves being given free BBQ.

We had our first NASCAR celebrities come and visit the Ultimate Tailgating Vehicle: Rutledge Wood; Larry McReynolds and Greg Biffle! Rutledge was pumped to tour the vehicle. Larry Mac hung out in the trailer and autographed a bunch of items. Also, we told Biffle about how our cousin, Fletcher, is a big Jeff Gordon fan. So, Greg made a personal video for Fletcher. With all of the big names stopping to see the Ultimate Tailgating Vehicle, we decided to turn one of the walls into the Ultimate Wall of Fame, trademark pending. So, we had the three guys autograph it. We'll be sure to post pics. It's so easy to be a NASCAR fan when everyone is so cool and down to earth.

This was our second week in Charlotte and our second race at the speedway. The Coca Cola 600 is a long and intense race. After we packed up the Ultimate Tailgating Vehicle for the night, we stopped at a local bar. Two guys, chicken wings, a couple of Coors Light's, and 10 TVs showing the race ... not a bad way to end the weekend.

While in Charlotte, we discovered that not only does North Carolina have good BBQ, but also some really awesome Thai food. John is really susceptible to a good panang noodle. We went to a place called House of Thai twice, just for the panang.

This week, we are taking the Ultimate Tailgating Vehicle to the Atlanta Braves game. It's not quite NASCAR, but baseball is still America's pastime.

We are getting excited for the next race. We are less than two weeks away from the start of the TNT Summer Series at the Pocono 500. We booked a hotel in Scranton, Pa., so we are hoping to stop by Dunder Mifflin. After we give away the Ultimate Tailgating Vehicle, the Chesney brothers are going to need a new gig. John's applying for the office manager position at D.M. and Tim is applying to be Dwight Schrute. Until then, see you at the races.
