1971: Richard Petty wins the West Virginia 500, the final Cup race at International Raceway Park in Ona, W.Va. Petty and Bobby Allison swap the lead for most of the 500 laps at the .455-mile track. Petty leads 279 laps and wins by more than two laps in front of Allison, who leads 201 laps. James Hylton finishes third, and Tiny Lund, the only other driver to lead laps (20), finishes fourth.
