1996: Jeff Purvis wins the Detroit Gasket 200 Nationwide Series race at Michigan from the 27th starting position. In the 20 Nationwide races at Michigan, only Ryan Newman in 2005 wins from farther back in the field. Newman starts 38th. On this day, Purvis gets his second Nationwide win, beating Kevin Lepage by .207 seconds. Terry Labonte finishes third.
