1956: Lloyd Dane wins a 250-lap race at half-mile Portland (Ore.) Speedway for his only Cup victory outside the state of California. Dane, a standout racing late models on the West Coast, wins four races in 52 starts from 1951 to 1964. He is inducted into the first class of the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame in 2002. On this day, Dane wins by one lap over Eddie Pagan and third-place Curley Baker.
