Time out of Nationwide car allows time for family

October 18, 2011, Elliott Sadler, Special to NASCAR.COM, NASCAR.com

The No. 2 OneMain Financial team is as focused as ever coming off two top-five finishes at Kansas Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway.

We had a solid run at Kansas with a third-place finish. It's great to have consistency, even as we were coming off a hard finish at Dover International Speedway. To rally back and finish third the next race really says a lot about the guys on our team and their resilience. That definitely shows the strong competitive nature of our team.

Charlotte is always fun, with so many friends and family that come to the track. It was a busy weekend all around, but the atmosphere under the lights is pretty electric. We brought home a fourth-place finish, which was not only a great points day, but we were able to walk away with $100,000 in the Nationwide Series Dash4Cash program. The highest-finishing driver out of the four contenders walked away with a giant check, and finishing ahead of the other three drivers, we won. It's definitely a great program that Nationwide Insurance puts on, but this time was especially cool because a fan also won $100,000. During the pre-race ceremonies, each of the Dash4Cash drivers was paired with a fan. I was paired with Joseph Thornton, and it was exciting to see him and his wife win $100,000 as well.

In a previous Dash 4 Cash segment, I promised my wife that if we won, I would get her a pool for our new house. Unfortunately, we weren't able to win the Daytona segment, so I went out and bought her a small kiddie pool. I'm thrilled now that we will be able to put a real pool in our backyard that more than one person can enjoy!

With our solid finish at Charlotte, we were able to make up five points in the drivers' points standings, and I'm now only 15 points back with three events to go. The Nationwide Series has two weekends off, but that doesn't mean that there's any time to relax. The OneMain Financial team will be using this time to prepare a new chassis for Texas, and we will continue to work on devising a plan for the final races of the season.

I will be competing in the Camping World Truck Series event next week in Martinsville, which is the shortest track on the circuit and a fun track. With the other time off, I'm going to spend time with my family. We only have a few weeks left until our family of three turns into a family of four. In case you didn't know, Wyatt is getting a new sister! My wife Amanda and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out a name for the new baby, and one morning she hopped out of bed and said that she liked the name Austyn, from my buddy Blake Shelton's first hit song, "Austin," but spelled a bit different. I called Blake up to ask his permission to use the name, and he seemed pretty excited about it to.

Until next time...HOLLA!
