1928: Ralph Earnhardt, the 1956 champion of NASCAR's Sportsman Division, is born this day in Kannapolis, N.C. The father of Dale Earnhardt and grandfather to Dale Earnhardt Jr. was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998.
