1980: Dale Earnhardt races to his second triumph in NASCAR's premier series, driving from the 31st starting spot to win the Atlanta 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Earnhardt leads 50 laps, including the final 29, to win by 9.55 seconds. Finishing second was rookie driver Rusty Wallace, making his first Cup Series start in a Roger Penske-owned Chevrolet. NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison took third.
