1959: Fireball Roberts dominates from the pole position to win the Firecracker 250, the first Independence Day race at Daytona International Speedway. Roberts led 84 of 100 laps in a Pontiac, beating Joe Weatherly to the finish by 57 seconds -- almost a full lap. Johnny Allen took third place.
