1982: NASCAR Hall of Famer Darrell Waltrip edges Buddy Baker by a car-length at Talladega Superspeedway to become the first repeat winner of the Talladega 500. Waltrip started second and led 107 of the 188 laps -- including the final 17 -- in a Junior Johnson-owned Buick. Baker led 12 laps in his runner-up effort, and Richard Petty wound up third. The track promoted the event as "13 races, 13 faces" for its variety of winning drivers. Waltrip showed up at a Talladega news conference the following year with a T-shirt reading "14 races, 13 faces. Sorry about that."
