In the Draft: Stenhouse gives thanks for a great season

November 24, 2012, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Special to NASCAR.COM,

Back-to-back Nationwide Series champion excited about move to Cup Series

The past few days have been incredible! I don't think the back-to-back championships sank in until the actual banquet on Monday night.

First of all I have to thank Mike Kelley and the entire No. 6 team. Their heart, desire, and determination are why we got to celebrate Monday night. It takes a team to a win a championship just not a driver.

I also need to thank Jack Roush. He always believed in me even when I struggled my rookie year. He has taught me so much in my career and I will never be able to repay him for everything.

A lot of people have asked me why I was so subdued after winning the championship. Believe me I was thrilled but in the same token it was also a sad time because that was my last race with my team. This year by far has been the funniest year I have had in my career and it was sad to see it come to an end.

Now it is time to go back to work and get prepared for the 2013 season. There never is "time off" in NASCAR. I am excited about working with my new No. 17 team. Daytona is less than 90 days away so I am ready.

I am taking a mini-vacation before heading to Las Vegas for the Sprint Cup awards.

I want to wish everyone a happy holiday weekend and I look forward to seeing you guys in Daytona! You fans rock and without you our sport wouldn't be where it is today. Thank you for all your kind words and support.
